Why not hike up Mount Roberts to view wild deer and bald eagles or head north to Auke Bay on a whale-watching tour? — remember to bring a good pair of binoculars to get the best view of these majestic and graceful creatures. If you prefer land mammals; catch a floatplane to a wildlife reserve such as Chichagof or Admiralty Island to see bears.
Day 7: Skagway
Skagway is today's port of call; at the height of the Klondike Gold Rush this town was gateway to the legendary gold fields and awash with trading posts, guesthouses, and saloons. Immerse yourself in Skagway's fascinating gold rush history; from viewing Wyatt Earp's pistol at Red Onion Saloon and visiting Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, to riding the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad past rugged mountains, teeming waterfalls, and towering glaciers en-route to Yukon's Whitehorse deep. Wander through the local galleries and curio shops or rest awhile in a restaurant to sample freshly-caught local seafood.
Day 8: Glacier Bay
Frosted crags descend into mossy forests and a 457-meter-deep fjord at the World Heritage Site of Glacier Bay, which is also one of the planet’s largest biosphere reserves. Stone, ice, and water collide to sculpt a dramatic landscape that is the crown jewel of south-eastern Alaska’s natural wonders. Gaze in awe at the lofty mountain peaks, calving glaciers, and glistening icebergs. Catch sight of bald eagles, humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, and seals; not forgetting the brown bears, moose, blacktail deer, and mountain goats ashore.
Day 9: Ketchikan
Venture ashore in Ketchikan which clings to the banks of the Tongrass Narrows. Day 11: Fly Vancouver to UK
