Day 1: UK to Nuremberg
Fly from your chosen UK airport to Nuremberg and enjoy a transfer to the port. Board Emerald Destiny and set sail for Bamberg.
Day 2: Bamberg, Germany
The UNESCO World Heritage site of Bamberg in northern Bavaria is a charming medieval town with more than 2,400 listed buildings and one the largest preserved old town quarters in Europe. Bamberg Cathedral, Old Town Hall, Neue Residenz (and its rose gardens), and Michelsberg Abbey bring the town's heritage to life. Head down to the river to visit 'Little Venice' and its 19th-century fishermen's houses. With nine breweries in Bamberg — producing more than 50 different draught beers — you can't head back to your ship without sampling at least a glass or two!
Day 3: Wurzburg, Germany
Nestling among vineyard-covered hills on Main River, you discover the 'Pearl of the Romantic Road' — Wurzburg. This pretty Bavarian city is famed for its Baroque and Rococo architecture. Its crowning glory is the Bishops' Residenz — an UNESCO World Heritage site — where you find elaborate 18th-century frescoes, a unique staircase and stunning three-dimensional stuccowork. Visit Wurzburg Cathedral — dedicated to the Irish martyr St Kilian — before stopping by Museum im Kulturspeicher to admire modern artworks. Wurzburg is also the centre of the Franconian wine country, which is served in distinct bocksbeutel bottles.
Day 4: Wertheim - Miltenberg
The ship drops anchor today in the picturesque Bavarian village of Miltenberg on the Main River. Its old town takes you back to medieval times with its beautifully-preserved half-timbered buildings including Gasthaus zum Riesen — Germany's oldest inn — and Schnatterloch (old market square). Explore local artefacts and history on a self-guided tour through Museum Miltenberg, then hike up the hill to Miltenberg Castle for panoramic views of the river and beyond. Emerald ACTIVE options include a guided walk to Wertheim Castle.
Day 5: Koblenz, Germany
The ancient city of Koblenz is located in central Germany and is the gateway to the castles and vineyards of the Rhine Gorge. The statue of William the Great in the centre of the city marks the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Ride the cable car to the hilltop Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Visit Forum Confluences - home to Mittelrhein Museum and the interactive attraction Romanticum. Meander through the Rhine Gardens to admire the Electoral Palace, Pfaffendorf Bridge, the historic Weindorf, the Gardens of Empress Augusta, and the Father Rhine and Mother Mosel statue. On the outskirts of the city, explore Stolzenfels Castle and its surrounding gardens.
Day 6: Cochem, Germany
Step ashore today in the quaint German town of Cochem. Walk through the twisting, narrow town streets and admire the half-timbered houses, old town walls, St Martin's Church, Marktplatz and its Town Hall, Endert Gate Tower, and the Guard House. Take a guided tour and taste the special gourmet mustard produced at the 200-year-old Senfmuhle Mustard Mill. Ride the Seselbahn chair lift to the peak of Pinnerkreuz mountain for panoramic Moselle Valley views from the viewpoint or take a trip around the town’s sights on the Mosel-Wein-Express. Climb the 330ft-high hill to Reichsburg Castle to admire its amazing architecture and far-reaching vistas of valleys, towns, and vineyards.
Day 7: Bernkastel, Germany
The German town of Bernkastel sits proudly at the heart of the Middle Moselle. This charming wine-producing town is the perfect place to spend a few hours. Explore the historical Marktplatz, Renaissance-style town hall, St Michael's Church Tower, and St Michael's Fountain in the Old Town. Walk up to Landshut Castle to marvel at the amazing views or pay a visit to Heimatmuseum in the Graacher Tor. No visit here would be complete without enjoying a glass or two of the celebrated Bernkasteler Doctor wine in a rustic wine tavern or stopping by the Moselle Wine Museum at the St Nikolaus Hospital complex.
Day 8: Bernkastel to UK
The cruise comes to an end in Bernkastel - Frankfurt where you disembark and are transferred to the Airport for your flight home.
