Overview Itinerary
The Ship
Built in 2015, the elegant five-star MS Jane Austen is crafted to the highest possible specifications and standards. MS Jane Austen offers a most enjoyable river cruising experience from the moment you step into the spacious, marble-floored lobby. From the understated elegance and chic furnishings to the imaginative colour schemes and the sophisticated classic decor, this magnificent vessel can't fail to impress. Setting sail with a total of 140 guest and 35 attentive crew members, this 4:1 ratio ensures each guest benefits from the personal touch. On top of all this, there's more space on board for you to explore and each dining experience is more intimate. Expect your stay on board to involve sampling outstanding cuisine, relaxing in the beautifully-appointed accommodation, or simply enjoying the ever-changing riverside views from every angle.

Food
Choose the Lido Bar & Restaurant when dining on board MS Jane Austen; the relaxed atmosphere compliments the delicious food served throughout the day. Enjoy the culinary delights during an early bird breakfast, light lunch and dinner. Alternatively, opt to dine on an array of tasty dishes in the Main Restaurant during a buffet-style breakfast and lunch, and a waiter-served four-course dinner.

Drink
Take a seat in the Panorama Lounge and enjoy a drink from the extensive bar menu while you gaze at the panoramic views. Choose the Lido Bar on the Diamond Deck and enjoy a range of soft drinks, beer, and wine options. Visit the self-service station for tea and coffee around the clock.

Entertainment
Venture to the Sun Deck and relax on the sun loungers, or take a dip in the splash pool to cool off. Get competitive on the putting green or at the giant chess board. Browse souvenirs in the boutique, relax your mind and body in the sauna and steam room, or work up a sweat using the fitness equipment. After dinner, chat with friends as you listen to ambient music from the pianist or take a twirl around the purpose-designed dance floor in the Panorama Lounge. Alternatively, enjoy a quiet drink in the peaceful Lido Bar at the rear of the ship.
Day 1: UK to Cologne or Dusseldorf, Germany
Fly from your selected UK airport and arrive in Cologne or Dusseldorf where you will be transferred to the port and embark on board a MS Jane Austen.
Day 2: Koblenz, Germany
The ancient city of Koblenz is located in central Germany and is the gateway to the castles and vineyards of the Rhine Gorge. The statue of William the Great in the centre of the city marks the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Ride the cable car to the hilltop Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Visit Forum Confluences which is home to Mittelrhein Museum and the interactive attraction Romanticum. Meander through the Rhine Gardens to admire the Electoral Palace, Pfaffendorf Bridge, the historic Weindorf, the Gardens of Empress Augusta, and the Father Rhine and Mother Mosel statue. On the outskirts of the city, explore Stolzenfels Castle and its surrounding gardens.
Day 3: Cruising Rhine Gorge > Rüdesheim, Germany
Cruising through the spectacular Rhine Gorge is a highlight of any cruise. Also known as the Upper Middle Rhine Valley — and an UNESCO World Heritage site — this 65km section of the River Rhine runs between the German cities of Koblenz and Bingen. Keep your camera at the ready as the ship floats by Lorelei Rock and the impressive Pfalzgrafenstein Castle. Step ashore at the wine-making town of Rudesheim on the shores of the Rhine Gorge. Ride the cable car to the Germania monument and admire the stunning Rhine Valley spread out below. Stroll along the Drosselgasse with its many shops, taverns and restaurants - no trip here would be complete without sampling one of Rudesheim's famous iced coffees! Pay a visit to the musical instruments at Siegfried's Mechanical Music Cabinet. Explore the world of wine-making at the Rheingau Wine Museum in the medieval Bromserburg Castle.
Day 4: Speyer, Germany
Speyer sits alongside the picturesque waters of the River Rhine and is one of Germany's oldest cities. The town centre is jam-packed with fascinating buildings such as Old City Gate, Trinity Church, Memorial Church, St Joseph's Church, and the City Hall. No visit here would be complete without visiting the UNESCO-listed Kaiserdom Romanesque cathedral. Trace Jewish history at the Judenhof; comprising the ruins of the medieval synagogue, Jewish ritual bath, and SchPIRA Museum. Admire the fish-inspired statue in the fountain at the Fish Market or get up close to the live marine life at Sea Life Speyer. Enjoy the trains, aircraft, cars, motorcycles, fire engines, and ships at Technik Museum Speyer or discover a unique film-viewing experience at the IMAX Dome.
Day 5: Strasbourg, Germany
Strasbourg is located in north-eastern France and is often referred to as the ‘city of two cultures’ due to it being partly in France and partly in Germany. The stunning city’s cuisine and architecture is a perfect fusion of both country’s traditions and culture. Get lost in the rich history and beauty of Cathedral Notre-Dame, or walk through the cobbled streets of Strasbourg’s old town and get lost in the fairy tale setting. Explore the stunning Petite France and admire the magnificent half-timbered houses dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries.
Day 6: Breisach, Germany > Black Forest, Germany
For your final day of cruising, glide through the picturesque scenery of the rift valley separating the Vosges and Black Forest mountains. Sail into the ancient town of Breisach, dominated by Saint Stephan's Cathedral; visit the famous winery Badischer Winzerkeller or hike Totenkopf. In the afternoon drive through some of Central Europe's spectacular scenery; the Black Forest Mountains. A landscape of rugged valleys, white-water rivers, rolling hillsides, and cascading waterfalls - it's a must-see. The charming village of Titisee will be your stop-off, nestling on the shores of its clear-blue lake. Return to the ship to appreciate the twinkling riverside lights and views over the Vosges massif. Enjoy this evening's dinner as you sail onwards to Switzerland.
Day 7: Bernese Oberland, Switzerland > Lucerne, Switzerland
This morning you will drive into Bernese Oberland where views become even more breath-taking. The grand alpine heart of Europe; it has some of the finest mountain scenery on Earth. View the beautiful snow-capped peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau and you’ll be completely mesmerised. You'll then ascend by mountain railway for even more extraordinary vistas, with lakes reflecting the grassy meadows and lush forests below. After soaking up the views, you'll take a drive to Lucerne; stroll along the Chapel Bridge, a wooden walkway crossing the lake, supported by stilts and lined with flower-filled window boxes. Stop by Lion Monument or discover the Swiss Museum of Transport for interactive shows and fascinating artefacts.
Day 8: Basel, Switzerland to UK
Disembark and be transferred to Basel airport for your flight back to the UK.
