Emerald Radiance joined the Emerald Waterways fleet in 2017. This custom-built ship sets sail with a maximum of 112 guests onboard to explore the vineyards and wine-producing villages alongside Portugal's River Douro. Life onboard is intimate and relaxed, equally matched by an impressive 1:3 crew to guest ratio, stylish guest accommodation, and tasty culinary experiences.
The Sun Deck is the hub of the ship and lets you make the most of the balmy Portuguese climate. Relax in the sunshine on a deck chair or take a dip in the heated Serenity Pool. Soak up the ever-changing riverside views with a few laps of the walking track or sink a few balls at the golf putting green. Keep trim with a workout in the fitness centre or pamper yourself with a new hairdo at the hairdressers. The ship docks at a variety of culturally-rich and enigmatic ports which you can explore on an included excursion.
The 56 suites and staterooms are set across three beautifully-appointed decks - the Horizon Deck has the Emerald Panorama Balcony Suites, Emerald Riverview Suites and the Owner's One-bedroom Suite; Vista Deck features the Emerald Panorama Balcony Suites; and the Riviera Deck offers the Emerald Staterooms.
Local and international flavours tempt your tastebuds at the onboard eateries. The casual-style Reflections is the ship's main restaurant serving buffet-style breakfasts, buffet-style and a la carte lunches, and lavish four-course dinners. You can savour an alfresco cup of coffee, a light breakfast or a cafe-style lunch at The Terrace. The Sun Deck's Sky barbecue area presents a grilled feast on selected days.
Horizon Bar & Lounge is the perfect spot to unwind with your morning coffee and after-dinner cocktails. There is a complimentary state-of-the-art tea/coffee machines on board so you can make a hot drink whenever you wish. Lunch and dinner are accompanied by a specially chosen selection of red and white wines, beers and soft drinks at no extra cost.
The evening entertainment on Emerald Radiance is low-key. Horizon Bar & Lounge hosts a pre-dinner informal port lecture each evening from the Cruise Director and occasional after-dinner music and shows.
Day 1: UK to Porto
To start your exciting cruise you will fly from your chosen UK airport to reach Porto. From here you will be met at the airport and transferred to the ship port in preparation to embark Emerald Radiance. A sunset cruise will introduce you to the best of Porto's illuminated skyline.
Day 2: Porto to Pinhao
Enjoy today relaxing on board with a full day of sailing through the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Douro Valley. This spectacular area was inscribed because it hones in on two millennia of wine producing history, where viticulture has shaped the surrounding landscape and small sleepy villages are peppered with many sun-drenched vineyards. Your captain will host a welcome dinner and cocktail reception this evening.
Day 3: Pinhao to Vega de Terron
Start your day with a visit to the magnificent Quinta do Tedo vineyard nestled in the heart of Portugal's Douro Valley, on the confluence of the Douro and Tedo rivers. This 18th-century estate creates organic produce using traditional viticulture; a must-see on your trip. Alternatively, you can take guided talk through local vineyards, stopping along the way to admire what's around. This afternoon enjoy sailing to Vega de Terron, perhaps unwinding on the Sun Deck before your included Port wine cocktail demonstration or cooking demonstration on board the ship.
Day 4: Vega de Terron to Salamanca
The ancient city of Salamanca is your port of call today; a UNESCO World Heritage-listed old quarter with an illustrious past, having been held by the Carthaginians, Romans, and Moors. Take time today to travel to the golden city for a walking tour, where you'll start amongst picture-perfect galleries and arcades that adorn Plaza Mayor. The opportunity can be had to see Casa de las Conchas, a building lovingly decorated with more than 300 shells.
Day 5: Pocinho to Regua
You will arrive in Pocinho this morning where the opportunity can be had to embark a canoeing excursion or perhaps visit the Coa Valley Museum. Return to the ship later for lunch and the chance to soak up your surroundings as you make your way towards Regua, as you take part in a casa painova tasting on board. A rural dinner at a wine estate is guaranteed to be the highlight of your trip.
Day 6: Regua
On an included excursion today you will visit the fascinating Baroque village of Lamego, stopping on your way to see the picturesque Shrine of Our Lady of Remedies; a grand structure that stands proudly over the town.
Day 7: Porto
Set at the mouth of the Douro River you can discover an eclectic mix of modern and ancient architecture. This amazing place is famous for its exports of Port wines, so it's easy to imagine how British merchant ships used to cluster together in the medieval harbour to carry tasty wine across the water. Your included tour today will show you the fortified structures of Castelo da Foz and Castelo do Queijo which beautifully overlooks the ocean.
Day 8: Porto to UK
Once you've enjoyed a delicious breakfast it's time to bid farewell to your new-found friends and the friendly captain and crew. Disembark the ship and prepare for your flight back to the UK.
