MS Roald Amundsen sails into the Hurtigruten fleet in Spring 2019. This state-of-the-art expedition ship features new and environmentally-friendly hybrid technology and electrical power, which reduces fuel usage and CO2-emissions. Setting sail with a maximum of 530 passengers on board; you'll soon feel at home in your modern and well-equipped sea-facing cabin or suite and get to know your travelling companions and the resident crew and Expedition Team. The laid-back and friendly on-board lifestyle and the casual dress code are equally matched by the locally-inspired and tasty cuisine. The focus is very much on what you can experience ashore and the on and off ship activities. Spend your days at sea relaxing on the outdoor explorer deck and enjoying the views from the observation lounge. Work out in the fitness room and take a brisk stroll around the outdoor walking deck, before enjoying some downtime in the wellness area.
The cuisine on board is locally-sourced and made from the freshest of ingredients. Take your seat in the T Alune Main Dining restaurant at breakfast, lunch, and dinner to enjoy first-class service and a varied menu of starters, main courses, and desserts. Pay a small supplement to dine on gourmet fare in the Fredheim and Lindstrom Restaurants.
Explorer Lounge & Bar on Deck Ten is the social hub of the ship. From your morning coffee through to pre-dinner drinks and late evening nightcaps; this is the place to mix with your fellow passengers and take in the ever-changing outside views.
The entertainment on board MS Roald Amundsen is relaxed and low-key. The Expedition Team host a programme of enrichment talks and evening get-togethers; while out on deck they guide you through the points of interest, nature, and other fascinating sights. Enjoy ambient background music in the evening as you socialise with your fellow guests in the lounge and bar.
Day 1: The Big Apple
Today fly from the UK to New York where your expedition will begin. Savour the beautiful autumnal colours of New York City and treasure your time to see all that Manhattan has to offer before embarking MS Roald Amundsen. Join your fellow passengers on deck as you set sail out of Manhattan and pass the iconic Statue of Liberty.
Days 2 & 3: Lectures and Legends
Days spent at sea are yours to enjoy at leisure. The Expedition Team will start a series of introductory lectures all about fascinating history, biology, and life in the ocean. Make use of the brilliant on-board facilities or venture outside onto the deck for the chance to spot spectacular marine wildlife and sea birds guiding the vessel.
Day 4: Historic Treasure
Considered one of America's greatest historic treasures, Charleston is the perfect city to explore on foot. Find its quaint cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages, truly elegant French Quarter, magnificent Battery promenade, and Waterfront Park. Spend time at leisure to discover the city's many historic sites or join in with an optional excursion to sightsee in the company of a guided tour and newfound friends.
Day 5: Learning and Relaxing
Today you will have time to spend on deck as you head south and begin to feel the air getting warmer and warmer. Soak up the serenity of relaxing sea days; listen in as experienced lecturers share their extensive knowledge and meet the Expedition Team outside on deck to spot beautiful wildlife and unique sea birds.
Day 6: Hemmingway and Caribbean Villas
The laid-back Key West is the Florida Keys' southernmost island and is only 140km from the beauty that is Cuba. Perfect for a day of exciting exploration, take a stroll amidst the 19th-century architecture in Old Town and pay a visit to the Ernest Hemmingway House Museum or cool off with a drink at the famous Sloppy Joe's Bar.
Day 7: Serenity at Sea
The Expedition Team will continue their lecture programme today as they share extensive knowledge and experience. They will also let you know about plans for the days ahead.
Day 8: Ruins, Beaches and Turquoise Seas
Visit San Miguel de Cozumel and spend your day ashore in this lively island town to enjoy the restaurants, charming cafes, and stunning nearby beaches. Discover the island at leisure or join one of the excursion options of the day.
Day 9: Reefs, Research and Reptiles
Known for its spectacular coral reefs and breath-taking dive sites, Utila is the smallest of the Honduras Bay Islands. Come ashore in Utila Town today; the island's only settlement. Spend your afternoon appreciating the relaxed pace and take a visit to the Iguana Research & Breeding Station to see local species. Alternatively take in the beautiful sandy shores of the beaches close by.
Day 10: Learning and Relaxing
Enjoy another pleasant day at sea today as you make your way further south. The Expedition Team will recap the voyage so far and prepare you for the next three days which will be filled with many tropical island experiences. Spend time on deck to breathe in the fresh air and capture photographs of birds and other wildlife.
Day 11: Remote Tropical Paradise
An unspoiled tropical island with traditions that remain intact, glide into Providencia today. Hear English Creole spoken here and marvel at sensational scenery and lovely sand beaches, get to know the friendly locals, and watch the pretty sunset as you set sail late in the evening.
Day 12: Days of Adventure
Another day in paradise awaits today. Use your time to explore some of San Andres Island’s natural attractions at leisure or join one of the thrilling optional activities of the day.
Day 13: Lobster and Jungle
The Creole inhabitants of Great Corn Island live in colourful wooden houses and earn most of their income from lobster fishing. With white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters making up the beauty of the island, you are free to enjoy an afternoon of snorkelling here, or challenge yourself to a hike up Mount Pleasant Hill for stunning views of the entire island.
Day 14: Island Style
Today will round up our extensive journey by calling on Bocas del Toro, an archipelago of cays and thousands of islets. Bocas is brimming with sandy beaches and is called the 'Galapagos of the Caribbean', as it is one of the most biologically diverse places on Earth.
Day 15: Architecture and Marketplaces
Puerto Limon boasts a wealth of fascinating architecture and vibrant open-air marketplaces ideal for those who wish to shop 'til they drop. The central market is the place to buy everything from carved wood items to traditional souvenirs to take home for friends and family. After disembarkation, you will be transferred to San Jose for an overnight stay. On the way there, enjoy a fascinating excursion that will take you to the Tortuguero Canal.
Day 16: End of the Expedition - San Jose, Costa Rica
Transfer to the airport today in preparation for your return flight to the UK.
