Its crowning glory is the Bishops' Residenz — an UNESCO World Heritage site — where you find elaborate 18th-century frescoes, a unique staircase and stunning three-dimensional stuccowork. Visit Wurzburg Cathedral, dedicated to the Irish martyr St Kilian, before stopping by Museum im Kulturspeicher to admire modern artworks. Wurzburg is also the centre of the Franconian wine country, which is served in distinct bocksbeutel bottles.

A town in the district of Wurzburg in Bavaria, Ochsenfurt is a quaint little place with much to keep you occupied. Uncover the Medieval charm of Hauptstrasse with its old timber frame houses or find the New Town Hall, built in 1497, constructed as a tower with a moon clock. Marvel at the beautiful fortifications of Stadtbefestigung or perhaps pay a visit to the old 1288 church of St Andreas and take in its beautiful interior and grand organ. Take time to check out the exhibits of Trachtenmuseum or venture further into the Wurzburg district and take a guided tour of the frescos and paintings of the lavish 18th-century Wurzburg Residence.
