Koblenz > Rhine Gorge The ancient city of Koblenz is located in central Germany and is the gateway to the castles and vineyards of the Rhine Gorge. The statue of William the Great in the centre of the city marks the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Ride the cable car to the hilltop Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Visit Forum Confluences which is home to Mittelrhein Museum and the interactive attraction Romanticum. Meander through the Rhine Gardens to admire the Electoral Palace, Pfaffendorf Bridge, the historic Weindorf, the Gardens of Empress Augusta, and the Father Rhine and Mother Mosel statue. On the outskirts of the city, explore Stolzenfels Castle and its surrounding gardens.

Historic Mannheim is known as ‘the city of squares’, due to its grid-like layout, and is home to Mannheim Palace and Schloss Museum. Today's Freechoice options take place in nearby Heidelberg; renowned for its baroque Altstadt, beautiful riverside setting, and half-ruined hilltop castle. Either join a local guide on a historic tour of Heidelberg including a visit to the Renaissance Schloss Heidelberg - the castle ruins are among the most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps.
