Though it's not the most well-known place, it is home to one of the most famous mountains in Iceland - Mt Kirkjufell. Hike the 463m high mountain and discover the astounding views below. Take a stroll around Snæfellsnes National Park and admire the prominent formations dating back to the last ice age. Visit Kirkjufellsfoss and take in the beautiful views of the waterfalls and mountains. Take part in a tour and sail by Mt Kirkjufell and other scenic areas, or take a trip to visit one of the most active volcanoes on earth, Hekla.

7
Isafjordur, Iceland
The fishing town of Ísafjörður is perched on a sand-spit jutting out into one of north-west Iceland's deepest fjords. It's worth visiting some of the cafes, bakeries and family-run restaurants that serve locally caught seafood throughout the year. Musical festivals and events often take place in the town and offer visitors insights into modern Icelandic culture. Cruise by Hornstrandir - the King and Queen of cliffs - and feel royally spoilt by breath-taking views. See Drangaskörð; these dragon tail pinnacles are one of the most unique natural wonders in Iceland.
8
Heimaey, Iceland
Heimaey is the largest island in the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago in Iceland. The island is dominated by two enormous volcanic peaks - Helgafell and Eldfell. Lava flow from the Eldfell volcano famously erupted in January 1973 engulfing over 400 buildings overnight. An archaeological excavation recently revealed some of these buildings - perfectly-preserved below the debris - and these now form part of a fascinating exhibition at Eldheimar Museum. Pay a visit the Vinaminni Kaffihus cafe where every table tells the story of a different family who experienced this fateful night through photos and accounts. A boat trip around the island is the perfect way to appreciate the unique landscape and coastline.
