Drake Passage
The Drake Passage, otherwise known as Sea of Hoces, is the body of water between South American's Cape Horn and the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. Connecting the south-western part of the Atlantic Ocean with the south-eastern part of the Pacific Ocean; it is considered one of the roughest seas in the world. With a depth of 4,800 metres, it has been named the gateway to the Antarctic by many travellers. On average, it takes a cruise ship around 48 hours to sail from one end of Drake Passage to the other and passengers heading across can expect temperatures from 5°C in the north to -3°C in the south. The waters are rich in plankton, which then makes for healthy populations of dolphins, whales, and seabirds.

Antarctic Sound, Antarctica
Today the ship cruises through Antarctic Sound; a body of water that spans 30 nautical miles and is seven to 12 nautical miles wide. The Sound takes its name from the first vessel to navigate it in 1902 - expedition ship Antarctic - and separates the Joinville Island group from the northeast end of the Antarctic Peninsula. The peninsula sweeps up towards the tip of South America and is the perfect habitat for the black and white penguins that return each year to mate. This frozen continent at the ends of the Earth doesn't have any permanent inhabitants, but 28 countries have built research stations here to explore the crucial part it plays in the Earth’s weather and water levels.

Antarctica Peninsula
Spend the next three days in one of the remotest places on earth. Antarctica boasts breath-taking scenery and natural beauty. Walk on the glistening snow, enjoy thrilling kayaking and hiking, and come face-to-face with fascinating wildlife such as penguins, seals, and whales. Each trip ashore will vary depending on local weather conditions. The Deception Island at South Shetland Islands is a picturesque volcanic island with awe-inspiring volcanically-warmed sand and waters, which is sometimes cool enough to swim in! Half Moon Island boasts beautifully majestic Antarctic scenery and wonderful nature, perfect for photo opportunities; while the picturesque Yankee Harbour is home to a large colony of Gentoo penguin. Visit Neko Harbour, one of the places that you can place your feet on the Antarctic mainland, and Paradise Bay has magnificent glaciated mountains, towering ice cliffs and icebergs. At Wilhelmina Bay, keep your eyes peeled for the large numbers of humpback whales as well as the outstanding scenery and peaceful waters.

South Shetland Islands, Antarctica
A group of Antarctic islands, the South Shetland Islands have a total area of 3,687 square kilometres and lie about 120 kilometres north of the Antarctic Peninsula. Almost completely ice-covered, the 2-3% that is ice-free is where you can discover penguins, seals, and human inhabitants at the various bases. The main islands include King George Island, Elephant Island, Deception Island, Livingston Island, Penguin Island, Bridgeman Island, Aitcho Islands, Greenwich Island, and Half Moon Island. Deception Island is the best place to swim in Antarctica, so don't forget your swimming costume. Across the islands, the beautiful scenery includes mountains, glaciers, icebergs, ice caps, and lunar landscapes.

Kids & Teens
Silver Wind cannot accommodate infants under the age of 6 months. Guests must notify Silversea of any children between the ages of 6 months and 1 year who will be sailing on board the ship. A signed and notarised waiver will be required for all children between these ages. Children under the age of 8 years old are only permitted to participate in suitable Silver Shore Excursions / shuttle service if the vehicles are equipped with the correct safety harness and seating equipment. Child harnesses and secure seating cannot be guaranteed. Silversea reserves the right to refuse children under the age of 8 years old on any tour on the basis of safety. Guests may use their own approved safety seat, booster seat or harness provided they are compatible with the local touring vehicle and can properly secure the child.
There are no special programmes for children of any age on board, and Silversea does not provide for the care, entertainment or supervision of children. Silversea reserves the right to limit the number of children less than 3 years of age.
