Portofino is found on Italy's north-west coast between Genoa and La Spezia. This beautiful fishing village is renowned for its pretty harbour, colourful buildings and connection with the rich and famous! Once ruled by the French, English, Spanish, and Austrians; Portofino has a diverse and interesting heritage. See the Christ of the Abyss statue and 12th-century Church of St. Martin, before climbing the 'Salita San Giorgio' flight of steps leading from the harbour to Castello Brown — a castle transformed into a mansion featuring a neo-Gothic interior! Kayak and snorkel along the coast or take a sightseeing tour to Genoa and enjoy designer shopping.
Day 3: Livorno (for Tuscany), Italy
Livorno — Tuscany's second-largest city — is home to one of Italy's largest cruise ports. The city's main Terrazza Mascagni square with its grand pavement and seafront promenade is a common meeting place for locals looking to relax. The 16th-century Old Fortress faces the harbour and sits at the entrance to the canal-lined Venezia district. Enjoy gourmet dishes and sample local seafood, which is said to be the best on the Tyrrhenian Coast. Head to Central Piazza Cavour or the car-free Via Ricasoli for shopping, try Via Magenta and pick up some quirky souvenirs, or stop by Via dei Pensieri's street market for a great selection of food, clothing, accessories, and homewares. If you're looking to travel further afield, Pisa is just a short drive away.
Day 4: Civitavecchia (for Rome), Italy
Spend the day exploring the charming port of Civitavecchia and Rome — an ancient city filled with famous landmarks, distinct architecture and influential art. Visit Civitavecchia's main public square — Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II — and see the Baroque cathedral dedicated to St. Francis, before taking a seat in a pavement cafe for a taste of the local seafood. In Rome, enjoy a gladiator experience at the grand Colosseum, view the ancient ruins of the Roman Forum, and throw three coins in the Trevi Fountain. Pay a visit to the Vatican City — the home of the Catholic Church — and see St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Museums, and the Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo's ceiling.

Naples on Italy's Amalfi Coast is your next port of call. Visit Piazza del Plebiscito to admire the Royal Palace, Galleria Umberto and San Carlo Theatre. Step inside the Duomo to view the Cappella di San Gennaro, the baptistery, and colourful frescoes and mosaics. Enjoy family-time at Acquario Della Stazione Zoological Di Napoli. Pay a visit to the historic Castello de Schiso and the 20th-century Santa Maria Immacolata, explore the fascinating Museo E Area Archaelogica di Naxos, and follow the nearby sculpture trail inspired by Greek mythology. Depart on a boat trip along the coast to Isola Bella and the Grotta Azzurra. The popular holiday resort of Taormina is just a short drive away and well worth a visit too.
Day 8: Dubrovnik, Croatia
The Croatian city of Dubrovnik sits on the country's southern coast on the Adriatic Sea. Explore the city centre — an UNESCO World Heritage site — with its 17th-century Cathedral of the Assumption and Rector's Palace, before walking around the ancient city walls. Admire the views as you ride the cable car to Mt Srd or visit one of the city's museums. Relax in the sunshine on Banje Beach; enjoy a boat trip to the nearby islands of Lokrum and Elafati; and view the city from the water on a kayaking trip or take a snorkelling tour.

Visit the Museum of Ancient Glass and the Roman Forum, before enjoying a cold beer or a coffee from a cafe at the lively People's Square. This historic port also features a selection of modern landmarks including Sun Salutation — an enchanting light show that plays from sunset to sunrise — and Sea Organ, which is a system of pipes and whistles found underwater that play music as the sea pushes air through it.
Day 10: Venice, Italy
Explore beautiful Venice on Italy's north-east coast. This city built on water is a favourite with visitors due to its gondola rides, delicious cuisine, and stunning Gothic architecture. Stroll around Piazza San Marco, soak up the atmosphere, and gaze in awe at Basilica di San Marco and the soaring Campanile. Meander through the bustling streets and visit the shops and stalls along Ponte di Rialto. You can sail up the Grand Canal to visit the stunning Palazzo Ducale, see works of arts from Bellini and Titian at Gallerie dell Accademia, then head to Scuola Grande di San Rocco to see the intricate Old and New Testament scenes. No visit to Venice would be complete without boarding a vaporetto to see the glass-blowers on the island of Murano or to visit the lace makers on the picturesque island of Burano. In the evening, stop by one of the canal-side bars to enjoy live music as you dine on fresh seafood dishes and sip a glass or two of prosecco. Make sure to try Venetian cicheti — similar to tapas — which include dishes such as soft salami and smoked swordfish.
