Day 1 - 4: UK to Lisbon
Fly from your selected UK airport to Lisbon and be transferred to your hotel for your three night stay.
Day 4: Lisbon, Portugal > Coimbra, Portugal > Porto, Portugal
Check out of your Lisbon hotel today and board the motor coach that transfers you through Portugal's breath-taking countryside towards Porto. En-route you'll stop at Coimbra; home to the Joanina library and its ceiling frescoes, carved shelving, and 300,000 reads. Stop at a local family-run restaurant to feast on a traditional Portuguese meal for lunch before venturing into the town to see the historic buildings and architectural remains alongside the Mondego River. You will board Queen Isabel tonight in Porto, have the chance to unpack, and prepare to set sail.
Day 5: Porto, cruising the Douro River, Porto Antigo
Discover the charms of Porto today with a choice of some distinctively different tours. 'Do as the locals do' with the exciting walking tour that includes local tastings and a vintage tram ride. See historic buildings and intricate architecture and also sample the fabulous food and wine and chilled-out vibe. Alternatively, embark on a panoramic city tour to the famous Stock Exchange Palace and get a feel for the quaint town and its multi-storey townhouses, medieval alleys, and baroque-style church towers. Don't miss out on the Clerigos Tower or Porto's hilltop cathedral before you drive down to the Ribeira. After your tour the ship will set sail to cruise up the Douro towards Porto Antigo.
Day 6: Régua, Portugal > Pinhão, Portugal
You'll cruise along the river today to pass Regua and several little chapels on the river banks. These mark the spots where rabelo boat crews perished in an attempt to transport their Port wine to the city of Porto. The featured excursion teaches you all about wine during your visit to Douro Museum and gives you the chance to sample some regional wine for yourself. Travel up winding roads to the hilltop winery Quinta da Avessada and learn of its rich history. Spectacular views and stunning drop-offs can be enjoyed during this excursion. On the other hand, you will be given the choice of a scenic sailing lunch on board the ship to tuck into some delicious dishes and admire the cruising views.
Day 7: Vega de Terrón, Spain
Cruise through the protected landscapes of the Duoro River Valley and then head ashore for a choice of excursions. Choose from a wine tasting experience at a prestigious Port wine estate and admire breath-taking landscapes shaped by wine growers from many years ago. Tour the facilities and test out the most exceptional Ports in a designated tasting room. Your second option is to join a vineyard hike at a local quinta to get a first-hand look at how the beautiful vineyards are tended and harvested and also learn which grapes are grown here and why. This evening, a special Gala Dinner will be prepared for you on board.
Day 8: Salamanca, Spain > Barca d’Alva, Portugal
More adventures await in Spain today as the ship docks near the border. Head across to the historic university town of Salamanca, which is popular for its sand-coloured buildings and plethora of churches. Today's excursion will guide you around the 'Golden City' and the oldest university in Spain. Stroll with your local expert through Plaza Mayor to discover the university and its ornate plateresque facade. One of Spain's best; Salamanca's food hall is brimming with divine foods to sample with the assistance of your guide. There will be plenty of time to look around the shops on Rua Mayor and tuck into a tasty tapas lunch.
Day 9: Barca d’Alva, Portugal
Barca d'Alva is your base for exploration today, a small quaint village surrounded by mountainous scenery. Castelo Rodrigo is a medieval hilltop castle and your first choice for an excursion on this day. Enjoy incredible views from its highest point and then stroll the charming village. The tiny cobbled lanes will lead you to the town's market square and old pillory, the Manueline Church. If you're a fan of hiking, lace up your walking boots and go for a wander to glance at some prehistoric carvings during a visit to Portugal's first archaeological park, Foz Coa. See reproduction and original rock art, and then follow your guide into the valley to view some fascinating sites at first-hand.
Day 10 - 11: Porto, Portugal to UK
Disembark in Porto and be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
