Today the ship drops anchor at Rousse. One of the biggest and most important port cities in Bulgaria, Rousse is located on the south bank of the Danube. Nicknamed 'Little Vienna' due to its elegant architecture and rich culture and history; it is just ripe for exploring with no less than 300 landmarks and monuments to discover. The next stop today is Veliko Tarnovo, an urban area with a growing population. During your time here, walk along the cobbled lanes and view the many monuments across the city. The final stop of the day is at Svishtov; this quaint town is home to the Svishtov Monastery in its unique river valley, the Pametnitsite Historical Park (The Monuments) on the river banks, and an old fortress nestling in a park. Stroll through the Novae Roman ruins on the town's outskirts.

Vidin, Bulgaria > Belogradchik, Bulgaria
Step ashore today in the pretty port town of Vidin in the northwest corner of Bulgaria. Head to the medieval Baba Vida Fortress and explore the rustic ruins that depict the history of the town’s ancestors. Alternatively, head to the striking Belogradchik Fortress and gaze in awe at its impressive backdrop of rocky mountains. Meander through Vidin town centre and stop by the St Panteleimon, St Great Martyr Demetrius, and St Petka orthodox churches, Jewish synagogue, and mosque. Visit the Krastata Kazarma museum, housed in cross-shaped army barracks dating back to the 1800s; it's now home to an ethnographic exhibition.

Iron Gates, Romania
Iron Gates is a gorge on the river Danube that forms part of the boundary between Serbia and Romania and divides the Carpathian and Balkan mountains. Iron Gates measures approximately 2 miles long and 530 feet wide and showcases towering rock cliffs; making it one of the most dramatic natural wonders of Europe. Passing through, gaze in awe at the beautiful scenery and perhaps notice on the left side of the gorge, the Tabula Traiana marker that was laid by the Roman emperor Trajan over 2,000 years ago. It is also home to the Decebalus statue that was started in 1994 and completed in 2004; discover the last king of the Dacian Empire carved into the rock face.

Novi Sad, Serbia
Novi Sad is a city in northern Serbia resting on the banks of the Danube River. Visit the iconic Petrovaradin Fortress and discover the fascinating reversed clock tower. Stroll along Zmaj Jovina, which stretches from the town square to Dunavska Street, and leads to many of the city’s most popular sights. Enjoy the architecture at the Trg Slobode town square, including the Town Hall and Church of Mary’s Name. Tanurdžic Palace and the Bishop’s House are not to be missed too. Stop at the Museum of Vojvodina and explore the exhibitions and artefacts. Take a stroll around idyllic Danube's Park or spend an afternoon soaking up the sun on the secluded Štrand beach. There are also plenty of trendy bars and cafes, as well as many more fascinating museums and galleries.

Kalocsa, Hungary
One of Hungary's oldest towns, Kalocsa is situated on the Danube River on the southern part of the Great Hungarian Plain. Famed for being the 'paprika capital of the world', you can explore the winding boulevards and streets and the baroque-style buildings in Holy Trinity Square. Visit the awe-inspiring Archbishop’s Palace and marvel as the sun reflects off its yellow exterior. Alternatively, head to the Paprika Museum and discover more about town's trading history. Savour local folk art at The House of Folk Art Museum and the Károly Visky Museum or visit the mesmirising Cybernetic Light Tower.

One of eastern Europe's liveliest and most cosmopolitan cities — Budapest — offers plenty to see and do. The 19th-century Chain Bridge spans Danube River and connects the hilly Buda district with the flat Pest area.
