Mare Island, New Caledonia

Mare Island, also known as Nengone, is the second-largest of the Loyalty Islands. This French overseas territory nestles on the New Caledonia archipelago in the Pacific Ocean. Mare was a former coral atoll and is home to 6,900 inhabitants of mainly Melanesian heritage with French their main language. Pay a visit to the Natural Aquarium for snorkelling around coral reefs teeming with colourful fish, venture up to Warrior's Leap in Wakone, and spend a few hours swimming and sunbathing at beautiful Yedjele Beach. Head inland to explore the island's curiosities including the stalactite-covered Pethoen and Medu caves, the legendary Hnaenedre fortifications, and the infamous Wapoulanode mound. Perhaps sample the traditional Bougna dish which comprises seafood or chicken and root vegetables wrapped in a banana leaf and baked in an underground brick-lined oven.

Lifou, Loyalty Islands

Lifou Island is part of the Loyalty Islands' archipelago in New Caledonia, a French overseas territory in the Pacific Ocean. Step ashore to a friendly welcome from the locals. Head to Easo Beach for a few hours' rest and relaxation or take a guided tour to the fascinating Grotto D'Avio and The Devil's Cave. Gain insight into island life with a visit to Notre Dame de Lourdes Chapel or the fragrant Mucaweng Vanilla Plantation.

Noumea, New Caledonia

Off the east coast of Australia lies the island of New Caledonia. The Port of Noumea provides easy access to the beautiful beaches on Baie des Citrons and Anse Vata to the south. You can also take a few minutes boat ride to the offshore beaches Îlot Maître and Îlot Canard. All of these locations provide opportunity to engage in outdoor water sports all year round. Overview

For a ship so far from ordinary, it’s only fitting that this one visits some amazing, out-of-the-way destinations. In 2013, Carnival Splendor will be cruising on down to South America, to get you up-close with ports like Barbados, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. It’s hard to tell which onboard space best represents Carnival Splendor — they all seem to hint at the amazing time you’re going to have.
