Our Original voyages connect 34 coastal communities between Bergen and Kirkenes, delivering freight and showcasing the splendour of the Norwegian coast to guests from around the world. It is the classic way to travel the Norwegian coast as a local and has rightly become known as ‘The World’s Most Beautiful Voyage’.
There are two main ways to sail with Hurtigruten and experience the many wonders of the Norwegian coast.
Hurtigruten Signature Voyages are premium, all-inclusive sailings designed to showcase Norway's spectacular coastline in greater depth. Unlike the traditional Coastal Express route, Signature Voyages feature longer port stays, carefully curated excursions, and enhanced dining with locally sourced Norwegian ingredients. Guests can enjoy more time ashore, exclusive experiences and a relaxed pace while exploring some of Norway's most breathtaking destinations, including the North Cape and Svalbard.
The Hurtigruten Coastal Express is the original Norwegian coastal route that has connected communities along Norway's coastline since 1893. Sailing between Bergen and Kirkenes, these voyages visit up to 34 ports and offer an authentic way to experience everyday life in Norway. Whether travelling the full round voyage or a shorter section of the route, guests can discover dramatic fjords, charming coastal towns and Arctic landscapes while following one of the world's most iconic sea journeys.

To mark our 130-year anniversary in 2023, we launched an exclusive range of Signature cruises. These premium sailings showcase our favourite places of Norway’s coast with several hours spent in each port. Guests can sail to the high Arctic of Svalbard during the summer on the Svalbard Line or choose to experience the length of Norway’s coast during the winter on the North Cape Line, sailing from Norway’s southernmost to northernmost point. These cruises provide guests with an elevated dining experience, with two restaurants included at no extra charge, as well as an inclusive drinks package and more onboard activities.

Whether you choose Signature Voyages or Coastal Express, you'll enjoy stunning scenery, exceptional service, and the chance to witness natural wonders such as the Northern Lights and Midnight Sun.
Dining on Hurtigruten is inspired by Norway's coastline, with menus showcasing fresh, locally sourced ingredients from regional farmers, fisheries, and producers.
On board, guests can enjoy a variety of seasonal dishes that highlight Norwegian flavours, from fresh seafood and artisan cheeses to traditional Nordic specialities. Many ships also feature panoramic restaurants, allowing you to enjoy spectacular coastal views while you dine.
Inclusions vary by voyage type. Signature Voyages include a wider selection of dining experiences and beverages, while Coastal Express sailings typically include full-board dining with drinks available at an additional cost.
Hurtigruten offers a wide range of optional excursions designed to help you experience Norway's culture, history, and natural beauty.
Popular experiences include wildlife safaris, scenic hikes, city tours, cultural visits, kayaking adventures, and excursions to iconic landmarks such as the North Cape. Excursion availability varies by itinerary and season.
Selected activities may be included on Signature Voyages, while additional excursions can usually be booked before departure or during your cruise.
Hurtigruten has a relaxed and informal atmosphere, so there is no formal dress code on board.
Comfortable, practical clothing is recommended, particularly for excursions and outdoor activities. Layered clothing, waterproof outerwear, sturdy footwear, and warm accessories are ideal, especially when sailing in Arctic regions or during the winter months.
For evenings on board, smart-casual attire is perfectly suitable.
Many Hurtigruten ships offer accessible cabins and wheelchair-friendly public areas to help guests move comfortably around the ship.
Accessibility features can vary between vessels, so guests with mobility requirements should discuss their needs at the time of booking. The team can provide detailed information about accommodation, accessibility features, and any limitations that may apply to specific itineraries.

Children are welcome on most Hurtigruten cruises, although age restrictions may apply on certain itineraries and expedition voyages.
For some destinations, including Antarctica, minimum age requirements may be in place for safety reasons. Parents should check the specific requirements for their chosen sailing before booking.
Pets are generally not permitted on Hurtigruten cruises.
Exceptions may be made for recognised assistance dogs, subject to local regulations and advance approval. Guests travelling with an assistance dog should contact Hurtigruten before booking to discuss the requirements for their itinerary.
